The Japanese Alps nearly broke Taya. Planning the bloody thing, mostly: figuring out where to go, how to get there, which mountain range to pick, and where the hell she was supposed to sleep... But in the end, it was all worth it.
Taya ended up hiking around Kamikochi, one of the most spectacular parts of the Japanese Alps, with plenty of easier walks around the valley and much wilder trails further up. Planning a trip here isn't exactly straightforward, but it's worth all the trouble (I swear). You can sleep in mountain huts, wake up surrounded by beautiful peaks, and walk peacefully along trails that don't feel crowded at all.
