Backpacking the Winter Olympics ⛷

I've always loved the idea of travelling for the sake of going to an event.

The idea that something means so much to you that you'll plan an entire trip around it, just to make it happen... that's very special!

And over the years, I've been lucky to be able to travel for gigs, festivals, and even sports competitions.

As we approach 2026, there is a major event on traveller radars: the Winter Olympics. And it's happening soon.

Where do you stay? How do you get around? And how can you stretch your budget without missing any of the excitement?

All great questions, Reader, and all answered here:

The Winter Olympics will take place in the north of Italy, where the mountains are grand and the espressos fine and strong.

And while some people hate the thought of going there at that time, I know some of y'all like to be right in the action!

So if you're planning a trip to Italy and are into winter sports, definitely look into it:

I’m not going to gatekeep here. I’m going to come right out and say it…the European gem that you NEED to visit in 2026 is Albania! ta-da ✨ If you’ve been part of The Broke Backpacker fam for a while now, you’ll know that we have been kinda obsessing over this place for a while.
