Do it better — do it alone ✨

Travelling solo can sometimes be an overwhelming and challenging experience — even if it's not your first time doing it!

But it's one of the greatest things I have ever done and I highly recommend everyone to try it at least once...

IF I were to start fresh, though, there are things I would definitely do differently. And I want to share them with you:

You'll thrive on your own 😎

Travelling alone is a magnificent opportunity for growth, self-discovery, leveling up your social skills AND your ability to enjoy alone time, and of course; adventure.

But it comes with its own set of challenges, so it helps to embark on such a journey prepared for what's to come.

Feeling Safe

First, prepare yo’ ass to avoid any disasters. We've made the mistakes so you don't have to...

Feeling Lonely

Boredom and loneliness are an integral part of travelling alone. But guess what, you can do something about them!

Kicking Ass

The more you know, the better you'll do!

But I'm Scared to Go Alone...

That's alright, you don't have to!

Nowadays, there are plenty of options for backpackers travelling on their own to join other like-minded travellers.

We wrote a post about the best adventure tour companies not long ago. Check that out!

But you have other alternatives, for example, you could use platforms like Get Your Guide or Viator to join daily activities and small tours so you don't have to do all the exploring on your own.

Sorting out a social/party hostel through Hostelworld can also be extremely effective, as they'll usually host events that make it easier to meet people.

Or, you know, take the "old-fashioned" route and join some backpacker groups on Facebook, they're great for inspiration and finding that ideal travel buddy you never knew you needed...

Regarding my last point about backpacker groups, I've been working on some ideas that are almost ready to come out!

I am passionate about the power of real community, and I reckon we've got a strong network of like-minded, passionate travellers here at The Broke Backpacker.

We've been thinking about how we can more actively bring THIS COMMUNITY TO LIFE and I have some exciting news to share with you next week, Reader, but until then...

If you're booking a trip soon, please support the site and check out our favourite resources.

Do more of what you love.
