India is a land of both adventure and misadventure! It has the power to change your life forever, but also to break you in half completely. This is a country that's got the best of the good, the worst of the bad, plus plenty of the amazing and the ugly coming at you ALL at once... so if you're planning to go, read this first:
🇮🇳 Travel Tips You NEED to KnowRight, so we'll start from the beginning. 1 - Get the hell off the Golden Triangle trailYes, the Taj Mahal is a must-see, but the real magic lies outside of tourist bubbles. When backpacking in India, make some time to head to the mountains in the North, and venture beyond Goa in the south. This can be applied to the entire country, but the main message is that getting off the beaten path IS possible and very much advised. 2 - You've got to ride the trainsAt least once! Yes, they can be painful, they can be uncomfortable, but they're also extremely fun! Getting on a train in India is like entering a world within a world. And in this scenario, both those worlds are extremely chaotic... India, baby!! There are food and snack sellers popping on and off, families cooking, youth travelling from thousands of miles away to find work, see family, and even the ill seeking medical treatment far off in the big cities. This is the real, raw India, and it’s all happening in sleeper class. 3 - Be very aware of scamsFrom rickshaw scams, to "burned down" hotels, the classic beggars' milk scam all the way to the fake holy men. Even though we can't fully prepare you for this, you should be aware that scams are very common in India. India is an amazing country to travel to, but it's one of those that you'll either love or hate with all your guts.
