Today, I'm taking you on a journey to see the highest mountain on the planet. Mount Everest is one of those places we hear about since we were kids. I still remember the stories of brave mountaineers pushing their way (and their limits) to conquer Earth's highest peak. It stands as a pinnacle of physical achievement, a testament to humanity’s defiance of nature, but it's not considered to be the safest of endeavours... Trekking to its Base Camp, however, and seeing this magnificent giant up close rather than attempting to climb it fully, is very doable. That is quite an achievement in itself - and one that our very own Samantha did recently. Without a guide! The trek to Everest Base Camp (EBC) is not an easy one, particularly because of the altitude issues. The terrain and the routes are relatively straightforward, but EBC is HIGH (17,589ft/5,364m). In order to attempt such a feat you need a decent fitness level, yes, but even then, it all comes down to how your body reacts to altitude. There are ways to train though, of course, and such a journey requires acclimatization. The reward in the end makes everything worth it. We've just published an article where Samantha explains everything you need to know, no matter if you'd like to go on a tour or backpack it independently like she did. If you'd like to know more about tackling one of the most magnificent trails in the world, you should definitely read it.
